The rain fell,
stacked
one upon
the other,
as I sat lost
in the midst
of distant days —
yesterdays
upon
yesterdays,
thinking about
what-could-have-beens
and
what-should-have-beens …
if only
our what-ifs
became realities.

The rain fell,
one raindrop
crashing upon
another —
breaking each other.
Splashing
gathering,
murky waters
coalescing
into pools.
Just like
thoughts
of you and me
dissolving … into
puddles of memories.
Sad remains of yesterdays
that should have been
washed away,
but like stagnant water
remains,
only to spill
and bubble over
during the next
cold and unforgiving,
rainy day.
