Your season of grace
and days of laughter
were swift and contagious.
You burned like wildfire,
and wild child that you are
you left with one final joke.
Caught unaware,
these ripples of grief
became too poignant to bear.
And too soon, we were left
with unsatisfying memories
of your incomparable brilliance.
In your shining eyes
so like the radiant sun …
I thought I saw you smile.
But perhaps this somber earth
is far too grave
for your complex soul.
And I uncomprehendingly watch
as the golden sun pales
at the blinding twinkle of your eyes.
