She sat by the window.
Looking out and looking in.
Windblown wavy white hair,
dancing against the morning air.
Breathing out and breathing in.
Wrinkly brown face crinkling.
Drooping thin lips smiling.
Seeing me and seeing true,
she asked, what have I been up to?
And I was a child again,
the ten-year-old chubby faced me.
Peering past and peering now.
Crying then and crying here.
Withered hands reaching out.
Filling me with comfort and care
Loving me then … Loving me now.
