You said goodbye on a summer’s day,
with the sun shining high
against the perfectly clear blue sky.
As the wispy white clouds sluggishly crawled by,
I wondered if I saw you look back and smile.
Your dark figure framed against
the brilliant powder blue hue of the summer sky,
you raised your arms to wave a last goodbye.
And my wet salty tears felt strange and out-of-place on this perfect day.
As I watched you turn and go,
the warm sunbeams seemed to painfully burn and keep
each thought of you onto my skin and into my heart,
until it felt like my entire soul and body was covered
with the minute tattoos of your memory ….
